What is an RSS feed?

One of the best descriptions of the benefits of an RSS feed (which is what makes podcasts different from other audio on the web and blogs easier to keep track of) is from the BBC:

"RSS allows you to see when sites from all over the internet have added new content. You can get the latest headlines and articles (or even audio files, photographs or video) in one place, as soon as they are published, without having to remember to visit each site every day. It takes the hassle out of staying up-to-date, by showing you the very latest information that you are interested in. - BBC Website"

What is a podcast?

Put simply a podcast is an audio file that you can download automatically onto your mp3 player thanks to the wonders of something called RSS. You can then listen to the podcast whenever and wherever you want. Of course you can still listen to most podcasts just by clicking on a link or audio player on the web. The choice is yours.
