Ariadne Brings Momail To UK

Ariadne Capital, one of the best known London-based VCs to invest in tech and web 2.0 companies, has today announced a partnership with mobile email service Momail which launches in the UK today.
The free service allows you to pick up your email quickly and easily on your mobile phone, no matter how many email addresses or providers you have. It also allows the use of ‘push’ technology in effect giving you Blackberry-like functionality on a standard mobile. Because Momail’s technology does not require special clients or software it means it works on a very large number of handsets.
Julie Meyer, CEO at Ariadne Capital, says of the partnership:
We believe Momail is the biggest step change in email since Hotmail which was acquired by Microsoft 10 years ago. Hotmail de-coupled email from a specific desktop or laptop and made it free; Momail continues that progress for the consumer - fitting their email to whatever phone they have.
It’s unclear what Momail’s business model is, although the above quote might suggest an acquisition down the road is the hoped for exit. The fact that the company claims to have significant intellectual property patent-pending may also be attractive to investors.
