SportStars Claim Startups Crown
By SmallBizPod, 31st October 2007 at 18:51
A sports coaching business for 4-12 year olds designed to give support to primary schools and children in the community walked away with the title of overall winner at this year’s Startups Awards earlier today.
SportStars founded by James Taylor also won the Community Impact Award. Despite facing intense competition from the final four The Book Depository, Plum Baby and etickets.to who each won their own respective categories, the passion, commitment, business skill and benefit to the community demonstrated by the company, sealed victory for James and his team.
Other winners on the day hinted at the growing trend for ’green’ and environmentally friendly businesses and included The Local Food Company and Onya a reusable bag manufacturer. There was also an award for young entrepreneur Fraser Doherty who started his SuperJam (healthy jams) business when he was just 14.
Full details of winners and short-listed companies can be found at the Startups Awards site.
