1 October 2009 Common Commencement dateKeeping track of changes to legislation that affect your business often feels like a daunting task. A summary of what you’ll need to look out for from 1st October, the next twice yearly ‘common commencement date’, have just been listed on the Business Link website.

Key changes include:

  • companies will only need to make their records available for public
    inspection in one place, rather than multiple locations;
  • the national minimum wage (NMW) rising to £5.80 an hour for
    workers aged 22 and above, to £4.83 an hour to workers aged 18-21 and to £3.57 for under 18s above compulsory school age;
  • tips paid to a worker through the employer’s payroll will no longer count towards the NMW;
  • public companies will need to file their corporate governance statement at Companies House (unless it is already included in the Directors’ report).

Details of the above changes and others can be found at the Business Link common commencement date page.

The site also offers an alert service for more instant updates to give you and your business time to prepare.
