Stell Step student entrepreneur of the year announced.
Chris Haigh, a student at Warwick University, has picked up first prize in the Shell Step most enterprising student awards after developing a product with a market potential of over £500,000.
Chris developed the product for a Saudi Arabian contract while on a work placement at Leicester-based resistor manufacturer Cressall Resistors. He also developed a new process which is set to save Cressall up to £6,000 a month thanks to increased communications efficiencies.
On winning the award Chris said:
Winning this award is just the icing on the cake of what has been a fantastic experience. My placement at Cressall taught me so much about the practical application of skills and knowledge in a real world environment.
By placing students in small and medium sized businesses Shell Step is designed to give UK students the experience they need to make the move into work a smooth one.
The participating SMEs also say they benefit from the skills that student placements can bring to their business. Clearly something that was true in the case of Cresall’s and Chris Haigh.
