SEO
Blogs provide search engines with lots of keyword-rich content which improves your ranking in search results and yield more traffic. Search engine optimization is not a black art.
Ease-of-use
Blogging is easy and intuitive. A basic blog can be setup online with as much complexity as setting up a hotmail account. A more advanced blog (like smallbizpod) can be installed on hosted web space. Once installed, you can be writing posts and pages within minutes. Blogging is also highly agile and allows you to quickly respond to changes in your market.
Reach your audience
Your blog posts can be syndicated through RSS (what is Real Simple Syndication?). Your visitors can subscribe to your blog and receive updates regularly. Subscribers must opt-in so there is no issue with your emails being blocked in a spam filter.
Share your knowledge
Blogging is a great way to help and educate others. Sharing your knowledge and giving away freebies on your blog is a popular way of cross-promoting your other products or services. 37 Signals have published a book (Getting Real) on their experiences in which they make repeated reference to their other products.
Encourage interaction
Blogging allows your visitors to get in touch with you and ask questions. These questions force you to do your homework and you will in turn develop your understanding of your subject.
Personalise your business
Blogging puts a personal face on your organisation and also offers a great way for developing connections with both your customers and other experts in your niche. They allow you to do business informally while writing conversationally.
Build your repuation
Blogging will help to establish you as an expert in your industry. Growing your blog to large readership, while easier said than done, will not only allow you to connect to the big players of your niche but go a long way in making you one yourself.

I am a final year engineering student at the University of Sheffield. I enjoy my degree and somehow find the time to study whilst writing a blog, working and trying to launch a start up. Having tried a few different engineering and accounting jobs and am now determined to work for myself. Over the past few years I have worked on a series of progressively larger ventures and have learned something new with every step. I enjoy strength-training, specifically powerlifting and have just started trying out a few olympic lifts. I play guitar when I get the time and I also enjoy martial arts, particularly Jeet Kune Do. I like to snowboard, but haven't enjoyed a week of powder in a few years and have to make do with a few hours on artificial snow every once in a while. http://www.letsmove.in/blog
