As many SmallBizPod listeners will know Apple iTunes is one of the main ways in which people find podcasts they’d like to listen to. For a podcaster, however, it’s very much a mystery as to how Apple ranks podcasts in its Top Podcasts charts.
Some say it’s based on the number of weekly downloads, some say it’s the number of new listeners subscribed that week, others say there’s some impenetrable algorithm working behind the scenes.
No matter. All I know is I’m delighted to see SmallBizPod sitting at #14 in the Top Podcasts chart for the business category on iTunes in the UK. I like the idea of an independent podcast like mine nestling ahead of The Times and just below the Daily Telegraph. Still a long way to go to reach the dizzy heights of In Business (one of my absolute favourite shows), but I don’t begrudge Peter Day his success!

Now I’ve drawn attention to it, it’ll probably sink like a stone, but I just wanted to say thank you to SmallBizPod listeners for helping making the show a success. Also it’s a good excuse to point to a whole host of useful, interesting and worthwhile business related podcasts produced by other organisations.
Congratulations, Alex – that’s really cool!
Many thanks Antony. Hopefully the curse of the commentator won’t strike. Looking forward to hitting the top 5 in 2007!
